Indeed, I've observed for myself that a product using a licensed version a company's technology does not necessarily score the same as the original. The labs state very clearly that their results apply only to the exact product tested, not to other versions, and certainly not to apps licensing antivirus technology. However, those scores don't necessarily reflect TotalAV's malware-fighting skills. Its aggregate lab result score, based on my calculation, is 10 of 10 possible points. Three of the five labs that I follow included it in their testing, and it aced all of their tests. TotalAV licenses its antivirus engine from Avira, and Avira Antivirus Pro See it at Amazon UK has done extremely well in recent tests. At this point, the software runs a quick scan for malware, and then it scans for available performance boosts and system junk that needs cleanup. Each button displays a green ring when all is well, changing to yellow or red if there's a problem. Most of the program's slate-gray main window consists of a large panel with four rectangular buttons representing Antivirus, System Boost, Disk Cleaner, and Web Security. It's quite a bargain on a per-device basis. However, instead of the single license you get with these others, TotalAV offers five licenses. The sweet spot seems to be just under $40-over a dozen current products match that price, including Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Norton, and Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus.
